A councilor of Codru town of Chisinau municipality will appear before court on charges of swindle in considerable amounts. The Chisinau Prosecutor’s Office completed the investigation and sent the case to court. If he is found guilty, the councilor will serve 8 to 15 years in jail, IPN reports.
The prosecutors established that the councilor, who managed two commercial organizations, during May 2011- September 2012, swindled a number of persons by abuse of trust. The councilor is accused of selling stalls located on the territory of “Curcubeu” market on Columna St in Chisinau as his own. He signed 22 sale-purchase contracts with persons who wanted to sell at the given market, asking for 1.4 million lei for the stalls. He received the money himself or through intermediaries.
Later, on the pretext of needing to correct mistakes made when compiling the contracts, he asked the victims to return the contracts and substituted these with lease contracts, causing considerable damage to the vendors.
The councilor was arrested two months ago and is investigated on remand.
