Coalition’s 2007 “Go Vote” campaign is on the last lap

The electoral education campaign of the Civic Coalition for Free and Fair Elections – Coalition 2007, launched in April, is on the last lap after the organisation of the several activities for young persons in Moldova with the message “Go Vote!”
Starting May 28, in 11 towns and over 30 villages, the National Youth Council of Moldova (NYCM) and the Association for Moldovan Legal Clinics (AMLC) will organise public marches, round table discussions, and TV and radio ads with “Go Vote!”. About 1000 members of the NYCM will attempt to demonstrate the importance of electoral participation, explain election procedures and will answer questions concerning the electoral campaigns and voting.
On May 30 and 31, public events including distribution of information materials will be organised in Causeni, Nisporeni, Cahul, Hincesti, Edinet, Orhei, Briceni, Stefan Voda, Soroca, and Riscani in the first part of the day.
Representatives from the AMLC will visit until May 31 at least 10 villages with the lowest voter turnout during the 2003 local general elections the 2005 parliamentary elections. Representatives from legal clinics in Balti, Cahul and Comrat will explain to young, eligible voters their electoral rights and voting procedures, and distribute informational materials.
At the same time, the League for the Defence of Human Rights of Moldova (LADOM) will conduct 35 seminars all over Moldova for the more than 1,800 national election observers who will take their posts during the June 3 local general elections. Observers are volunteers who are eligible to vote and are not politically affiliated. LADOM has submitted the list of observers to the Central Election Commission so that they will be accredited by election day. Observers will cover all voting sites and report on the events. In addition, LADOM will administer parallel vote tabulation for the mayoral races in Chisinau, Cahul, Comrat, Balti and Orhei.
