The legal norms providing for the decrease in the excise duties on luxury vehicles and for the exemption of an economic entity from paying taxes, which were annulled by the Constitutional Court last week following a challenge filed by Communist MPs, will be put again to the vote in Parliament, head of the Liberal-Democratic parliamentary group Valeriu Strelet said in a program on Prime TV channel.

According to him, the given norms were declared unconstitutional because the procedure was violated as they were adopted in Parliament without the preliminary appraisal of the Government. In fact, the Government gave its appraisal, but it reached Parliament with a delay of one day.

Valeriu Strelet said the Opposition lawmakers presented the essence of the two cases to the public in an erroneous way. The excise duties were decreased not namely for luxury vehicles, but for those with big-capacity engines, which is a much larger category of vehicles that includes the minibuses. As the people were put in the situation to pay taxes that sometimes exceeded the price of these vehicles, many registered them in the Transnistrian region and Moldova’s budget sustained thus huge losses.

The other case refers to the company that repaired the Kurki Monastery. “The monastery is state-owned, but the state is unable to pay Glorinal company for the repair works. That’s why they agreed with the company to exempt it from paying taxes,” said Valeriu Strelet. He assured that the procedures for voting legal acts will be obeyed in the future.
