The National Trade Union Confederation of Moldova (CNSM) suggests reexamining the minimum guaranteed salary so that this is raised to 3,100 lei as from July 1 this year. The proposal was addressed to acting Prime Minister Aureliu Ciocoi and the chairman of the National Employers Confederation of the Republic of Moldova Leonid Cerescu, IPN reports.

CNSM head Oleg Budza said the social partners should initiate consultations so as to make sure that the minimum guaranteed salary in the real sector is increased and this is implemented by a Government decision.

The minim guaranteed salary was set at 2,935 lei on January 1, 2021 only, not on May 1, 2020 as it should have been done. As a result, the employees monthly lost earnings of 160 lei or 1,280 lei for eight months of 2020, said the trade unions.

“The Republic of Moldova, ratifying the European Social Charter (reviewed), undertook to respect the recommendation to increase the minimum salary to 50-60% of the average salary in the economy. This way, given that the average salary in 2020 was 8,107.5 lei, the minimum guaranteed salary in the real sector should be of about 4,000 lei,” stated Oleg Budza.

Currently, the minimum guaranteed salary in the real sector is set by the Government as a result of consultations with the social partners. The minimum guaranteed salary in the real sector is examined annually, depending on the annual cumulative rise in the consumer price index and the labor productivity growth at national level.

According to statistics, in 2021 the gross minimum salary in Romania is of 2,300 Romanian lei or about 10,000 Moldovan lei, which is about 3.4 times higher than the minimum guaranteed salary in the real sector in the Republic of Moldova. In Ukraine, this is 6,000 Ukrainian hryvnias or about 3,900 Moldova lei, while in Russia – 12,792 rubles or about 3,100 Moldovan lei.
