In 2021, over 20,000 Moldovans received free lung and breast screening services, and 11,000 children received oral health services funded under the National Health Insurance Company’s (CNAM) prophylactic program, at a total cost of 20 million lei.

The biggest share of the prophylactic program’s budget, over 8.4 million lei, was spent on influenza and rabies vaccines.

Other 4.4 million lei was allocated for breast and lung cancer screening services destined for at-risk groups and for dental services for children in rural areas.

The screenings helped to reveal over 1,800 cases of lung conditions and over 500 instances of breast conditions. Of the 11,000 children that benefited from dental treatment, about 2,300 were found with complicated or serious oral health cases.

Other prophylactic measures included efforts to prevent drug consumption among children and adolescents, reduce alcohol and tobacco consumption, and others.

This year, the CNAM’s prophylactic program will have a budget of 50 million lei.
