The Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC) will not manage to dismiss Dorin Chirtoaca from the post of mayor of Chisinau because the proposal will not garner the necessary 34 votes. In such conditions, the Socialist councilors, who initiated the dismissal procedure, intend to follow the path of referendum. The issue was discussed in the program “In Depth” on Pro TV Chisinau channel, IPN reports.
The leader of the Socialist group on the CMC Ion Ceban said that if the dismissal proposal is not supported, they will use the referendum method. “We have a mayor who does not come to the meetings, while acts of corruption are committed everywhere at the City Hall. That’s why we will insist on the dismissal of Chirtoaca,” he stated.
Ruslan Codreanu, councilor of the Electoral Bloc PPEM-Iurie Leanca, confirmed that the number of votes needed for dismissing Chirtoaca cannot be secured in the CMC. “The Democratic councilor will not vote in favor. I heard that those from the Liberal Democratic Party will also not vote. We will support the idea of dismissal by referendum,” he said.
In a call-in, Dorin Chirtoaca expressed his confidence that he will keep his post even if a plebiscite is held. “I wish success to those who will organize the referendum and these will have to resign when they lose,” he stated.
The councilors of the Party of Socialists and the Electoral Bloc PPEM-Iurie Leanca announced they will try to dismiss Dorin Chirtoaca by a vote in the CMC. Under the legislation, at least 34 CMC councilors of the 51 must vote in favor for this to happen. The Councilors of the Party of Communists and the “Our Party” said they will vote for the dismissal of Chirtoaca.
