The Chisinau councilors debated a draft decision on the supply of first-fourth graders with drinking water at school proposed by the PAS group for almost three hours, but could not reach a compromise. They could not agree on the implementation method and on the period of launching the project, IPN reports.

PAS councilor Dumitru Ivanov, who presented the draft, proposed that the children should be supplied with drinking water through coolers. The cost of the project is estimated at 4 million lei and the money is available in the municipal budget.

Shor Party councilor Valeri Klimenko pleaded for water filers, saying this method is cheaper, while Socialist councilor Silvia Grigorieva insisted on the idea that filters to clean the water coming through faucets should be installed in all the education institutions.

Alexandr Odintsov, deputy head of the Socialist group on the Council, said he supports the measure, but the project cannot be implemented as from September 1, as the authors suggest, because the employees of municipal services are on annual leave until August 15 and there is no time left for the necessary preparations.

The meeting of the Chisinau Municipal Council will continue on July 30, starting at 10am.
