The Chisinau Municipal Council didn’t support the candidacy of Irina Gutnic for the post of deputy mayor of the municipality. The candidate proposed by mayor Ion Ceban didn’t garner the necessary number of votes, IPN reports.
In accordance with the legislation, a deputy mayor is elected by the decision of the Municipal Council, adopted by a majority of votes, at the suggestion of the mayor general. If the draft decision on the election of the candidate proposed for deputy mayor is excluded from the agenda of two consecutive meetings of the Council or the candidate is short of votes, the mayor general names the deputy mayor by an ordinance that is communicated to the CMC.
Currently, Irina Gutnic is the director of SA “Apă-Canal Chișinău”. In 2003-2012, she held different posts at the Ministry of Finance. She also served as division head at the Court of Auditors and as deputy director general of the National Dispute Resolution Agency.
