The Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC) paid no attention to the proposal of the councillor representing the Electoral Bloc “Patria Rodina – Ravnopravie”, Valeri Climenco, to create a commission which would evaluate the possible attacks of the government against Chisinau authorities. “Knowing the head of state and bearing in mind his recent statements, I anticipate that actions will be taken by the government to make the situation in Chisinau unstable, and as a result to replace the local authorities”, Climenco said in his interpellation. Supporting the same idea, Leader of Humanist Party Ion Mereuta proposed to analyse in detail the social economic situation of the Municipality. “There are rumours about embezzlements in Chisinau. Thus, it is necessary to create a commission which would evaluate the real situation”, Mereuta pointed out. This proposal was not included in the agenda either. Democrat MP Vladimir Filat, who refused the councillor’s mandate, recommended the CMC to work strictly within the legal frameworks, in order to give no reasons for attacks by the central authorities. On July 25, Vladimir Voronin told a news conference that now the central authorities will not support the local development projects. “We will not be able to build roads in Chisinau, illumination systems, refit the courtyards and the stairs of the apartment blocks. We will not be able to solve the issues related to the quality of public transport, tariffs for water supply and heating,” Voronin said. At the same time, the head of state said that the government could increase financing for tuition-free education in the higher education institutions in Chisinau and modernise the national hospitals.
