Cluj-Napoca city will host the first Bessarabian festival in Romania on March 25 and 27, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting the Romanian press. The festival “Basarabia” will be held to mark 90 years of Bessarabia’s union with Romania.
The event was organized by the Bessarabian Initiative Group in Cluj in partnership with the County Council and aims to promote the Bessarabian culture as integral part of the Romanian culture and, implicitly, of the European one. The Bessarabian Initiative Group in Cluj has 20 persons and is the representative forum of the Bessarabian students from Cluj-Napoca.
The event will be officially opened at the Cluj-Napoca City Hall. Flowers will be then laid at the monument to Onisifor Ghibu. Afterwards, the Cluj residents will see an exhibition of photos and short-reel films about Moldova’s problems.
The book “Bessarabia’s History” by Ioan Nistor will be launched during the festival and “Ways to find love again” by Marius Tarata. Representatives of higher education establishments from Moldova and Romania will take part in a discussion titled “The Role of the Youth in Developing Moldova after 2009 Elections”.
The festival will end with concerts given by the bands, Alternosfera, Gandul Matei, Compact, Hipnotic and Catalin Josan.
Over 500 students from Moldova study in Cluj at present.
