The students of the Chisinau Arts School “Valery Poleakov” study in flooded classrooms that are full of mould. Extensive repair works were carried out in the school, but the works on the roof weren’t finished and when it rains the water pours into classrooms. Contacted by IPN, the school’s principal Gheorghe Rusu said the blame is borne by the workers who have renovated the roof since last year.

“All the classrooms on the third floor are covered in mould. The three persons hired to repair the roof didn’t cover even the instruments when it started to rain. The children become ill and the parents file complaints,” said Gheorghe Rusu.

According to him, the classrooms were flooded earlier too, last winter. “We are going through a very difficult period. We don’t know when repair works will be done again. Furthermore, the winter is coming,” stated Gheorghe Rusu.

The school is managed by the Culture Division. Its head Lucia Culev said a working commission established that last year’s floods occurred because of the contactor’s fault. This year the workers didn’t manage to renovate the roof until the rainy period. The costs of repair works will be covered by the municipality.
