Class teachers could be remunerated for vacation period

By the start of the new school year, the Ministry of Labor, Social Protection and Family, at the request of the Ministry of Education, will suggest modifications to a Government Decision, which says that the class teachers are not paid for the vacation period. Contacted by Info-Prim Neo, Deputy Minister of Labor Sergiu Sainciuc said an estimated 34 million lei will be needed to pay the class teachers for their work during vacation. The deputy minister stressed that teachers' salaries now are not lower than they were before the decision was approved as the Government increased their pays by 24%. Moreover, this norm refers only to the autumn, winter and spring vacations, not to the leave that is offered in summer because the average salary in this period is calculated on the basis of the pays that the teachers received throughout the year. Sergiu Sainciuc said after the modifications are approved, they will look for the necessary financial resources. Tatiana Nagnibeda-Tverdohleb, the head of the Chisinau General Division of Education, Youth and Sport, said the mentioned Governess's Decision aroused many teachers' discontent. “The teachers expect a positive answer. We know that the Ministry of Education sent a letter to the Ministry of Labor, asking it to propose modifications to the decision,” she said, adding that the teachers are anyway dissatisfied as they receive low salaries. The Government Decision that says the class teachers are not remunerated for the period of the vacation was approved last yearend.
