The Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) upheld the sanctions imposed on fugitive Ilan Shor and MP Marina Tauber for destabilizing actions in the Republic of Moldova.

The European Union adopted restrictive measures in response to actions aimed at destabilizing Moldova, which have intensified since the beginning of Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine and threaten to prevent Moldova's accession to the European Union, IPN reports.

The Council of the European Union in May 2023 adopted the list of persons sanctioned under the new EU sanctions regime to counter actions to destabilize the Republic of Moldova. The list includes Marina Tauber, along with oligarchs Ilan Shor and Vladimir Plahotniuc, Gheorghe Cavcaliuc and Russian citizen Igor Chaika.

Ilan Shor and Marina Tauber requested the General Court of the Court of Justice of the European Union to annul these sanctions and claimed financial compensation in respect of non-pecuniary damage.

In its ruling, the CJEU rejected the given requests.
