NGOs and volunteers joined an event dedicated to the International Children's Day on May 31in Chisinau. The protagonists of the drive titled: “The Childhood's Rainbow” have been disabled children, who have proven they are able to realize great things, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The viewers attended an extraordinary concert performed by the disabled. They have danced, sung, and recited poems, showing smartness, courage and much desire for life and for embracing the beauty. During 2008, those children have been supported by community volunteers.
The head of the Chisinau Education Direction, Tatiana Nagnibeda-Tverdohleb, has told Info-Prim Neo, the activity of “The Childhood's Rainbow” is part of the events meant to include disabled children into general schools, to integrate into and make them adapt to society, so as to enjoy the same rights as their peers.
Attending the event, Premier Zinaida Greceanai, the chair of the High Level Group for Children from Moldova, has said the event is to draw the public eye's attention to the importance of observing the children's rights and especially to the necessity to stress the attitude with which children are treated in different situations of life.
Also Baroness Emma Nicholson, the co-chair of the High Level Group for Children from Moldova, has greeted the event. She says the disabled children's situation in Moldova is much better compared to other countries, taking into account that there are over one million children wrongly institutionalized in Europe.
“The Childhood's Rainbow” is unfolded within the activities of implementing the Strategy and the National Plan of community actions to support children in need. The organizer of the event is the Social Protection, Family and Child Ministry in partnership with the High Level Group for Children from Moldova, central and local administrations, NGOs and volunteers.
