The National Integrity Commission (NIC) is asked to provide more information and to explain the taken decisions. The request was made by representatives of civil society and the mass media in a roundtable meeting staged by the Association of Independent Press, IPN reports.
The representatives of the CNI attending the meeting said the publication of explained decisions, as civil society requests, would represent a violation of the right to personal information. CNI deputy chairman Victor Stratila said the person examined by the commission is informed about the decision and arguments of the commission.
As to the publication of the conflict of interest and income statements for 2012, Adela Griciuc, head of the CNI Personal Interest Monitoring Division, said there are only seven persons who must check 85,000 statements. Some of the statements were filled out incorrectly or do not contain the date when they were completed. The CNI is formulating proposals for amending the legislation on the commission’s work so that it can impose penalties, as the similar authority of Romania.
Cornelia Cozonac, head of the Journalistic Investigations Center, said the names of the public servants who break the law must be made public.
According to the CNI, in 70% of the cases the authority finds out about violations from the journalistic materials. The representatives of the media asked for broader access to the decisions and explanations of the commission so that the journalistic materials have an end.
