A number of nongovernmental organizations of Moldova signed a statement by which they expressed their concerns about the premeditated worsening of the situation in the eastern districts of Moldova. The representatives of the NGOs said that the latest events that took place in the Security Zone form part of a scenario aimed at destabilizing the situation on the left side of the Nistru, IPN reports.
According to the statement signed by civil society representatives, the fostering of the EU-Moldova dialogue, with the prospect of Moldova joining the European economic area, the liberalization of the visa regime and the modernization of Moldova were followed by the intentional worsening of the situation in the eastern districts of Moldova. Thus, the designation by the Russian President Vladimir Putin of a special representative for Transnistria, the abusive militarization of the region under the screen of the ‘peacekeeping’ operation, the murder of the Moldovan national Vadim Pisari by a Russian peacekeeper and the Russian authorities’ refusal to efficiently investigate this crime, the continuation of Russia’s policy to maintain this xenophobe and authoritarian regime are only some of the elements of this destructive policy against Moldova.
The statement says that the goal of the worsening of the situation in the Security Zone is not very clear and the actions may be taken at the wish of internal and external forces that want to completely eliminate the legitimate presence of the constitutional bodies in the municipality of Bender.
With the EU Summit of Vilnius approaching, challenges may be caused with the participation of the separatist paramilitary troops and the Russian armed forces that are present in the Security Zone. This way, there can be implemented a ‘Cypriot scenario’ or even a much worse scenario in the case of Moldova.
The civil society members say that the Moldovan authorities, except for several institutions that are directly involve, show complete irresponsibility towards the territorial integrity of the country, especially the gross, massive and regular violations of the human rights, including of the Moldovan people. The Transnistrian regime and those who are behind it profit from the irresponsibility, incompetence and, often, corruption of the political class of Moldova.
