Members of the Association “Civic Union for Direct Democracy” called on the Metropolitan Bishop Vladimir to fulfill the promise to excommunicate the politicians who passed the Law on Equality of Chances, known as the Antidiscrimination Law. Otherwise, they will ask Patriarch Kirill to name anther Bishop for Moldova instead of Metropolitan Bishop Vladimir.

In a news conference at IPN, the Association’s head Ruslan Popa said that many priests and Christians repeatedly asked the authorities to repeal the Law on Equality of Chances so as not to allow propagating homosexuality in Moldova. Before the visit of Patriarch Kirill to Chisinau, the lawmakers adopted an amendment proposed by the Church to the Code of Administrative Offenses. But after the Patriarch left, this amendment was annulled and thus the sexual minorities were allowed to create families.

The members of the Association called on the faithful to stage protests before the Palace of the Republic and the Metropolitan Church and to demand repealing the Antidiscrimination Law. They said that such a law in Ukraine and Georgia was repealed at the insistence of church officials.

They also said that Metropolitan Bishop Vladimir should go out before the people and say whether he supports the faithful or the sexual minorities. He must respect the Synod’s decision to excommunicate the mentioned politicians and to defend the interests of the Christians. Otherwise, he should resign and offer his place to a new Metropolitan Bishop who will be more attentive to the demands of the faithful.

The Law on Equality of Chances was carried by Parliament last May. Organizations of Orthodox Christians demand that the phrase ‘sexual minuet’ be removed from it.
