Civil organization claims authorities put pressure on judges and prosecutors

Moldovan authorities put pressure on the bodies of the prosecution offices and judging staff, fact that affects the judicial process, Fiodor Ghelici, the head of the “Moldova Mea” Association declared on September 19 at a press conference. According to him, judges who make decisions do not always have the possibility to act incompliance with the law. “When important state officials are involved in a certain case, judges violate the law while making their decisions”, Ghelici declared. The cited source told the press conference that during a single year he has received numerous petitions from the inhabitants of Criuleni raion, where the prosecution and judging bodies are accused of breaking the legislation, when examining the cases in which different public servants are involved. Fiodor Ghelici considers that the Moldovan legal system will not work properly as long as the judges will not be paid properly. During the lawsuits they do not think how to apply correctly the law but how to provide their families. The judicial reform and the independence of justice is one of the main problems Moldova confronts with – this is the conclusion made by the national and international experts. A series of experts ascertained that in Moldova the legislative frameworks is proper, however its implementation is deficient. Their standpoint is sometime supported by the representatives of state’s leadership.
