The Civic Coalition for Free and Fair Elections expresses its concern about the existence of significant gaps in Moldova’s legislation and calls on the parliamentary parties to immediately adopt a number of bills so as to avoid problems in the local general elections of 2015. The request is contained in a call to Parliament and to the people on the Global Elections Day, IPN reports.

The Global Elections Day is celebrated on February 5. On this occasion, the Civic Coalition for Free and Fair Elections welcomes the active participation of the people in the parliamentary elections of 2014 and calls upon society to permanently show responsibility in exercising and defending the electoral rights.

The Coalition considers that in order to avoid problems in the local general elections, a number of bills concerning the reformation of the party and election campaign funding system should be immediately adopted, the Broadcasting Code should be amended, while the equality of chances between men and women should be ensured.

“Given Moldova’s European aspirations and the promises made by the political parties and election runners in the pre-electoral and electoral period, the Coalition voices hope that Parliament will include these bills in the agenda of its next plenary sittings. The Coalition is convinced that the parliamentary parties can and should debate and adopt these bills, showing thus political will and respect for the Parliament’s Regulations and for voters’ expectations. The Coalition calls on the legislative body to involve representatives of civil society in the process of debating and adopting these bills,” reads the appeal.

The Civic Coalition for Free and Fair Elections reasserted its commitment to the democratic values and its intention and readiness to continue to take part in the improvement of the electoral processes in Moldova.
