Civic activist Marin Livadaru proposes creating an alternative public TV channel to the existing one and calling these Civika TV. Its Administration Board would include representatives of civil society who would make financial contributions. The initiative was presented in a public event, IPN reports.

Marin Livadaru said the public TV channel Moldova1 claims that it presents the public interest, but does not really criticize the Government. Only the private TV channels level criticism, but with a particular conflict of interests because politicians are behind them. Therefore, a deficit of accurate information appears and the solution is to launch an alternative public TV channel.

The team of the TV channel would consist of 40 employees. This would be financed with contributions made by people who would be interested in watching an independent and objective channel.

Adopting a law to allocate 2%-4% of the revenues from the sales of video and audio equipment to public alternative public TV channels is another solution. If at least 0.5% of the population contributed 50 lei, Civika TV would accumulate the monthly budget needed to work, stated the activist.

The representatives of civil society attending the event to present the project welcomed the initiative, but expressed their skepticism about the fact that the Administration Board would make contributions.
