The number of employees in the subdivisions of the Chisinau City Hall could be reduced, while the money obtained that way could go to increase the number and wages of the sanitation workers.
The proposal was made today by Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca, who, after demanding a more efficient waste disposal in the city, was told that there are not enough money and hands for that.
In retort, the mayor suggested that the civil servants should bring forward proposals to optimise the organisational chart of some subdivisions that have too many workers.
In his words, the Housing Division has more than 70 workers, too many if compared to the number of employees in a similar institution in Odessa city, which is larger than Chisinau. In this connection, the guillotine could strike the Marketing unit, part of the respective division, which according to the Mayor has nothing in common with the housing sector. By sacking unnecessary work force at this division, the city authorities could find the money for raises and new colleagues for the sanitation workers of the city.
Dorin Chirtoaca was also displeased by the fact that the wages of the City Hall workers vary from 400-500 to 9,000-10,000 lei. Such a situation must be dealt with by the City Council. Meanwhile, the mayor says, everyone has to make do on what they have and even to make efforts to optimise their activities.
“I myself could say that the 30% that we are left from the total tax revenues do not suffice to fund the municipality, but I cannot do anything to change it, as it is established by law, although there is no other capital in the world than Chisinau that transfers 70 percent of its revenues to the government. But, to go on, we must cope with our tasks no matter the inventory”, Dorin Chirtoaca pointed out, quoted by Info-Prim Neo.
