The City Hall intends to ask the World Bank and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development to lend money to reconstruct the Wastewater Treatment Plant in the municipality of Chisinau.
General Mayor of the capital city, Dorin Chirtoaca, told a news conference that the feasibility study, done previously for this site, is being assessed at the moment, and the Estonian consultant of the project came up with some formula for the plant’s reconstruction. One of them is to get the two banks involved in this project.
“The idea of rebuilding the Wastewater Plant on European financial basis, as it happened in the neighbouring countries, especially in Romania, will be taken into account”. The mayor promises to present details of the project later on.
The General Mayor has recently halted the tender contest for the Wastewater Treatment Plant of the Chisinau municipality, informing that the contest announced in May was not attractive because the water and sewerage pricing policy was not reviewed so that the investor could see how the investment can be recouped.
At the same time, to further hold the tender as previously announced was a too heavy financial burden for the municipality.
The Wastewater Treatment Plant started running in 1964-1977, in a few stages, being at present totally outdated. No more reconstruction works have been subsequently done.
