City Hall seeks expert advice to find the right anti-skid agent for the capital

Chisinau Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca is actively looking for efficient anti-skid materials for the cold season. The Mayor is not convinced that the salt and sand are the optimal option for Chisinau and asked the Public Transport General Division (DGTCC) to ask for an opinion of the environmental associations. The Mayor is dissatisfied with the fact that glazed frost covers all the streets in Chisinau, while other countries have their roads and pavements dry. The Foreign Relations Department was also advised to examine how other cities handle this situation during winter. DGTCC experts assert that the best anti-skid material during winter is composed of 10% salt and 90% sand, since it doesn’t pollute the underground water in the city. The Chief of the Division, Veaceslav Tarna, assessed the possibility of using chemical substances as unreasonable. At this moment, DGTCC has a provision of 12 thousand cubic metres of anti-skid material at “Exdrupo” and 512 tonnes of salt. The necessary amount of anti-skid material for Chisinau during winter is 20 thousand cubic metres.
