The City Hall is willing to contribute to improving living standards of orphan children in the municipality. Olga Guranda, senior specialist of the municipal Division for Children Rights Protection (DPDC) of the Chisinau Municipal Council, told the City Hall meeting today that in March DPDC included 18 orphan children in the list of persons that need their living conditions improved. In the context, general interim mayor Veaceslav Iordan requested the Divisions’ specialists to examine the situation of all the orphan children who need better living conditions and to take them into local authorities’ care. According to data from DPDC, from the beginning of this year 17 new-borns were abandoned in Chisinau maternity hospitals, three of whom having their mothers infected with HIV/AIDS. Early this year, DPDC specialists participated in 357 trials, the most frequent cases in court – 218 in number – referring to the deprivation of parental rights. According to Olga Guranda, the legal actions on such cases are often initiated by one of the parents. At present, 237 orphans need dwellings in Chisinau municipality.
