Ten former and current City Hall officials, natural persons and legal entities, have been documented in three criminal cases regarding the investigation of "creation of a criminal scheme for unlawful acquiring of plots of land for construction, by way of lease".
According to a General Prosecutor's Office press release, the investigation established that the suspects set up a scheme which allowed them to attempt to alienate some plots of land, which belong to Chisinau City Hall.
The Chisinau City Prosecutor's Office conducted 21 searches on the morning of September 9. The searches took place in the offices, cars and homes of the investigated persons, as to identify evidence relevant to the case.
If convicted, the ten persons face up to 10 years in prison and can be fined hundreds of thousands of lei.
