City Hall meets New Year with both achievements and failures

The municipal authorities meet New Year with both regrets and achievements, Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca said in a news conference held to sum up the City Hall’s work in 2010, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to Dorin Chirtoaca, many of the problems could not be solved because of the scarce budget and of the political instability. “I wish we had more political stability and calm. Besides, it would have helped if the City had had a larger budget. We could have done more things. Nevertheless, the city’s problems must be known, not hidden. It’s the only way to solve them”, he said. The mayor stated that despite the difficulties, the City Hall obtained important, even historical achievements. Dorin Chirtoaca referred to the completion of the water treatment plant’s renovation, allotment of compensations for heat, purchase of 102 new trolleybuses, finalization of Valea Morilor Lake’s restoration, the “First House” Program, building of playgrounds and repair of several streets. The Mayor also said the municipal authorities managed to provide the healthcare institutions with modern equipment and to partially repair some of them. Besides, he mentioned the building of the Cruzesti mayor's office, opening of a kindergarten-school in Stauceni and implementation of “My City – My Yard” Program. “We will do our best to recover the 500 million lei taken from us in 2008, when the income taxes for economic entities were annulled. Another goal will be the decentralization of power, as the City Hall has a lot of responsibilities, but does not have levers to punish those who break the law”, the mayor said, referring to his plans for 2011.
