City Day will cost over a million lei

The City Day will cost Chisinau over a million lei, officials of the City Hall say. According to Leonid Gorceac, head of the Culture Division, the 350,000 lei earmarked for organizing the celebrations will cover only the festive concert that will take place in the evening of October 14. So, the authorities will have to look for additional resources to purchase fireworks, organize the reception of the official delegations from brother towns and festivities in the city’s districts. A sum of about 630,000 lei will be spent on the delegations, as against 810,000 lei last year. But this money will cover the expenses for only 50 of the 70 persons expected to come to the holiday. Only 33 places were reserved at the hotel because there were no more free rooms for that period. This year, it is 571 years of the foundation of Chisinau. The City Day and the Wine Day will interconnect for several hours only, when the central authorities will award prizes to the Moldovan winemakers in the Great National Assembly Square. Officially, both holidays are scheduled for October 14, but the Mayor General says that the Wine Day will take place on October 13.
