The Chisinau City Council is not going to spend more than what is needed for the cleaning project at Valea Morilor lake. The general mayor, Dorin Chirtoaca requested on Friday, July 6, a rigorous monitoring of the works done by the contractor. Chirtoaca asked for a rigid calculation of the costs, in order to avoid any waste of resources. He also mentioned that the City Council will audit the already accomplished works from January till now. The public tender for evacuating the mud took place in June, after six months of works in the area. The tender was won by “Autocomtrans”, which was already working there. The contract is estimated to 40 million lei. Until now, the works have cost about 10-12 million lei, works which don’t have any financial coverage and which started before the contract was signed. The company addressed the City Council, stating that it is unable to continue the works, since most of the funds were borrowed. The lake risks being filled with water again if the works don’t continue.
