Citizens who are abroad can register online for presidential elections

The Moldovan citizens who are abroad and cast their ballots in the October 30 presidential elections as close to their place of residence as possible can register online beforehand. These can access the website www.alegator.md and fill out the registration form and electronic statement in the division “Preliminary registration”, IPN reports.

According to the Central Election Commission, afterward the voter will receive confirmation of the preliminary registration on the email address indicated in the form. The preliminary registration period ends 40 days before the election day. This procedure will enable to identify the major concentrations of voters so as to establish additional polling places.

When the given period is over, the information about the number of people who registered preliminarily will be transmitted to the Government so that this takes a decision as to the necessity of setting up additional polling places outside embassies and consular offices.

Those who registered preliminarily will be automatically struck off the main electoral roll at the domicile in Moldova on a temporary basis, for the period of the presidential elections of this year only.

The data collected as a result of the preliminary registration will be processed exclusively for organizing and holding the elections. These will be protected in accordance with the Law on Personal Data Protection and will be revealed to no state institution in the country or abroad, except for cases stipulated in the legislation.
