The Chisinau Child Rights Protection Division calls on the citizens to call the police on 902 immediately after they see unsupervised children, who wander or beg on the streets of the city.

After identifying the child on the street, the police will inform the local tutelage authority and will together assess the state of the child and this will be immediately taken to placement centers managed by the Division or by nongovernmental organizations. Later, procedures will be initiated to reintegrate the child into the biological family or to place this in permanent services.

The Division’s acting head Rodica Terehovschi has told IPN that the call to the people was made in the context of the winter holidays as the children in the period are on vacation and most often remain unsupervised.

According to Rodica Terehovschi, practically all the children found unsupervised in the recent past have been returned to the biological family. Two children were abandoned in 2017, as opposed to four in 2016.

The acting head of the Chisinau Child Rights Protection Division voiced hope that the number of professional parent assistants and personal assistants will increase this year and a specialized center for vagrant children will be founded by 2020.
