The Moldovan citizens can have greater expectations of the government. The people probably believe that the Alliance for European Integration (AEI) took over a flourishing country with great accomplishments and now is wasting everything. In reality, when the AEI came to power, Moldova had an enormous budget deficit left by the former government. But the people have the right to have greater expectations and demand decent living conditions, Minister of the Environment Gheorghe Salaru said in the public debates “The Alliance consists of allies, while the government team of fellow members? The culture of political relations in government: manifestations, stakes and effects” that were organized by Info-Prim Neo. “Significant effort was made to take the country out of the crisis. Surely we do not meet all the expectations and the people have the right to demand more,” said the minister. He stressed that the 42 laws adopted under the Moldova – EU Action Plan are aimed at improving the living standards of the Moldovans. At the same time, referring to the Law on Guaranteeing of Equality, he said that the homosexuals were discussed a lot, but not much attention was devoted to the children with disabilities or other socially underprivileged groups. Gheorghe Salaru stated that the Moldovans want to consume democratic values and a good government, but they should realize that they must become themselves producers of these values and the good government. He considers that the ruling parties, the opposition, the people and the mass media should together turn from consumers into producers of values. The debates form part of the Development of the Political Culture through Public Debates Project that is supported by the German foundation Hanns Seidel. The participants in the debates - members of the Government, Parliament and civil society – approved of the event, saying civil society needs more such consultations so as to better understand the government process and the importance of becoming directly involved in it.
