The Ciocana Court ordered to place Gheorghe Cavcaliuc under arrest for a 30-day period in the case concerning the fabrication of the cases against Petic and Verbitski. The decision was taken in the absence of the culprit following an approach made by the Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime and Special Cases, IPN reports.

In a reaction on Facebook, Gheorghe Cavcaliuc said that judging by the developments, he reached the conclusion that the case was fabricated. The Republic of Moldova will lose two cases at the ECHR – one for the fabrication of the case against Gheorghe Petic and another one for the fabrication of the case against him and the innocent police officers who are now under arrest without being to blame.

“I reiterate that I committed no illegality and fabricated no case. I fulfilled my duties in accordance with the law,” noted Gheorghe Cavcaliuc, former deputy head of the General Police Inspectorate, adding he will challenge today’s decision in the Appeals Court as unfounded and disproportionate.

Gheorghe Cavcaliuc was invited by PCCOCS to be questioned about the cases that were fabricated by the General Police Inspectorate in 2018, when Gheorghe Cavcaliuc served as deputy head of the Inspectorate. Gheorghe Petic was framed for rape, while Ruslan Verbitski for illegal conveyance of Kalashnikov cartridges to Ukraine. Cavcaliuc left Moldova after the snap parliamentary elections of this July. He repeatedly informed that he is in London on business.
