Of the 1,441 churches existing in the country, 285 held services with parishioners, even if the Government banned this. According to Prime Minister Ion Chicu, the police launched the procedure for penalizing the churches that didn’t comply and held services, IPN reports.

“Regrettably, the police have to impose penalties. The procedures were launched in accordance with the legislation and I regret a lot that the given rule is not obeyed,” Premier Chicu stated after the meeting of the Single Command Center that manages the COVID-19 pandemic.

Two cases of infection with COVID-19 among priests have been confirmed so far.

Ion Chicu also said that there were reported cases of staging of different recreational activities at night. He will propose changing the legislation so that the managers of places that allow holding such events are held criminally accountable. Now the legislation does not allow taking legal action when the consequence or damage of the action is not confirmed.

“We will suggest amending the law so that we do not wait for the confirmation of new cases of infection and criminal cases could be started only for violation, without waiting for the consequences,” stated Premier Chicu.

The number of infections with COVID-19 in Moldova now totals 263. Of these, two persons were cured, while two died.
