An initiative group of Orthodox priests disapproves of the fact that the Moldovan political leaders disregarded the Church Synod’s statement that informed about the intention to initiate the procedure for excommunicating the promoters of homosexuality. In a news conference at IPN, the priests said the politicians showed thus that they do not know and do not read the Bible.

Priest Ghenadie Valuta said the statement of the Church Synod was promoted in a wrong way. Some people said that this action represents blackmail, but the Church’s attitude is dictated by the Bible, which openly condemns those who promote homosexuality. “The Church didn’t condemn, but expressed the biblical wish of God so that it is not blamed for keeping silent. The punishments stipulated by the Holy Scripture and the Holy Tradition should not be perceived as revenge, but as a medicine for waking up the conscience of the guilty ones,” stated the priest.

He also said that the Moldovan rulers went through all the stages of disobedience stipulated in the Holy Scripture and can be named pagans because they didn’t listen to the call of the faithful not to adopt the Antidiscrimination Law. The functionaries must understand that they should not come into conflict with the Church as it aims to protect society, while those who oppose the word of the Church will not end well their earthly life.

Priest Maxim Guzun said the statement issued by the Church Synod will be followed by other actions aimed at sensitizing the people and thousands of faithful people will soon go on the Cross Road through the entire country in order to tell everyone about the destructive impact of homosexuality.

The priests also said that they will ask the Moldovan Metropolitan Church to stage a consultative conference with representatives of society where to discuss the impact of homosexuality in Moldova.
