The administration of the Chisinau municipality inaugurated Monday, December 24, the Christmas tree situated in front of the City Hall building. General Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca expressed his regrets over the fact that the tree is not in the Great National Assembly Square but in front of the City Hall, hoping that in a year or two it will return to the Square where it belongs. He also hoped that the sense of freedom inspired by the Christmas tree in front of the City Hall building would spread all over the country and that Moldova would be together with other EU nations, “together with our brothers”. The event featured carollers and groups of lads reciting congratulatory verses (uraturi), and a sketch that imitated the disappearance of the Christmas tree from the Square. Famous artists from Moldova, such as Eugen Doga, the Advahov brothers, Doina Arsene, Inesa Stratulat, Indiana and others took part in the festivity. Dozens of persons gathered in front of the City Hall and filled a portion of Stefan cel Mare Blvd. Still the police didn’t step in to stop the vehicle traffic. The city authorities installed a Christmas tree in the Great National Assembly Square on Sunday, December 9, but it disappeared overnight. Whereas the city authorities said the tree was moved by the police, they denied any involvement. Later, the Mayor ordered to move the tree in front of the City Hall. On Monday evening, the central authorities erected a Christmas tree in the Square.
