The dismantling of the Christmas tree situated in the Great National Assembly Square of Chisinau starts in the morning of January 16 and will end this weekend, head of the Green Areas Association Sergey Carp has told IPN.

According to him, the Association’s workers will initially take down a part of the baubles so as to enable employees of the lighting company “Lumteh” to disassemble the light festoons. The other decorations will be later collected and the tree will be taken apart. The adornments and the tree will be stored at the Association until next year.

Contacted by IPN, Anatolie Aparatu, chief engineer of “Lumteh”, said the festoons located on the streets of the city and on trees will be turned off, but will not be taken down.

The Christmas tree set up in the central square of Chisinau was donated to the municipality by an artificial fir trees making company last year. It is conic in form and is 20 meters in height. The tree has a life of 7-8 years and can be later renewed by using the old body and replacing the ornaments. This year it was mainly decorated with baubles bought last year. About 35,000 lei was allocated for purchasing new decorations.
