The Christmas tree that is set up in the center of Chisinau this year will cost by 2,000 lei more than last year. The City Hall already found the suitable tree in a village in Hancesti district and agreed to buy it for 11,000 lei.
The fir tree grows in the yard of the mayor’s office of Bozieni. It is 39 years and is over 20 meters high.
Contacted by Info-Prim Neo, Mayor of Bozieni Ludmila Dubceac said they asked 16,000 lei for the tree. “They said they cannot give us more than 11,000 lei and we consented. We anyway intended to sell the tree or cut it for wood as it is old and too high and can anytime fall over the mayor’s office,” said the mayor.
The tree is public property and thus the Bozieni local council should also give its consent to selling it. “It is more a technical procedure. We discussed with the local councilors and most of them back this decision. Furthermore, we are proud that our tree will delight the people in Chisinau during the winter holidays,” said Ludmila Dubceac.
The Christmas tree will be put in the Great National Assembly Square on November 25. On December 1, the lights on it will be switched on. Last year, the Chisinau City Hall bought the Christmas tree from a family living in Botanica district for 9,000 lei. Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca last year said this year they may build up a metal frame in the form of a tree, instead of setting up a natural tree, but this idea was abandoned.
After the holidays, the Christmas tree is undecorated and transformed into wood that is used to repair the benches in the central garden of the capital city.
