A Christmas Fair will work on 31 August St, in the perimeter of the streets Banulescu-Bodoni and Pushkin, between December 15 and January 14. According to acting mayor of Chisinau Nistor Grozavu, such a proposal was put forward by the Government, which also intends to decorate a Christmas tree at the fountain situated close to the National Palace. Traditionally, the New Year’s Eve concert will be held in the Great National Assembly Square, where there will be the main Christmas tree of the country, IPN reports.

In the ordinary Monday meeting of officials of Chisinau services and divisions, Nistor Grozavu said the proposal to set up a fair on 31 August St was submitted by Prime Minister Pavel Filip. The area is suitable as there are two museums there – the National Library and the National Palace “Nicolae Sulac”.

Carousels will also be brought to the Christmas fair, but these will be different from those that were put up in the central square so far. A Christmas tree will be placed in the center of the fountain near the National Palace, while another one in the Great National Assembly Square. “There will be two trees, but we should not make a difference between them and name them the City Hall’s tree and the Government’s tree,” stated the acting mayor, noting that it is not a competition between the local and central authorities, but a ‘supplement’.

The fair will provide about 60 selling places. The section of 31 August St between the streets Banulescu-Bodoni and Pushkin will be closed to traffic and the public transport will run on the adjoining streets.
