The Christmas fair on 31 August St will be inaugurated on December 15 at 6pm and will take place under the slogan “Home on Christmas”. This will be open between 10am and 10pm until January 14. After the inaugural ceremony, the bands “Fluieras” and “Etno Republic” will give a concert, IPN reports.
Prime Minister Pavel Filip told a news conference that the Christmas fair is an event designed to bring a change of attitude and mentality. “We want the citizens of Chisinau and all the residents of Moldova and our expats to return home on Christmas and feel as if they are in large European cities during the Christmas holidays and simultaneously feel at home in Chisinau,” stated the Premier.
The Christmas tree installed near the National Palace in Chisinau was brought from the Romanian Carpathians and was donated by the Government of Romania. This is 20 meters in height and will be adorned with garlands and 350 figurines. The whole area will be decorated with thousands of lights.
The Christmas fair will consist of five areas:
– Fairytale area, near the fir tree, where children will be able to talk to Santa Claus;
– Ice area, where there will be set up a skating rink;
– Adventure area, where a carousel with 42 seats will be put up;
– Traditions area, where handicrafts and traditional objects will be displayed;
– Caroling area, where groups of famous artists will give performances.
The main stage will be placed near the Christmas tree, where cultural events staged by children from all over the country will take place daily, between December 15 and January 14. Over 4,000 children from families with modest incomes will use free the carousel and skating rink and will receive presents from Santa Claus. On the News Year’s Eve, the fair will work until 8pm and will resume work on January 1 at noon.
