The Orthodox Christians who follow the Julian calendar observe the Feast of Saints Archangels Michael and Gabriel on November 21. This is the last great feast of saints before Advent. Contacted by Info-Prim Neo, priest Octavian Mosin of “God’s Greeting” Church of the State University said that the archangels form part of the group of angels who serve the people. Archangel Michael is known as the Chief Commander. He is the first guardian angel who struggled for truth. Archangel Michael is shown in military uniform, wearing a sward in his hand. Archangel Gabriel is considered the messenger of good news. According to tradition, he told Saint Parents Joachim and Anna about the birth of Virgin Marry, God’s Mother. The Christian tradition says that he is the angel dressed in white who keeps a white lily in his hand. The priest also said that the faithful people are urged to follow the Christian traditions, especially because Wednesday is a fast day. It is believed that the feast dates from the 5th century and started after the blessing of a church dedicated to Saint Archangel Michael by the Roman Emperor Arcadicus of Constantinople (395-408). Afterward, the name of Saint Archangel Gabriel was also included in the calendar and the feast was extended to cover the entire group of saints.
