Members of the Association of Christian-Democratic Jurists express their bewilderment at the delay in examining the application submitted by the Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca to the Parliament on September 11. In the application, Chirtoaca informs that he decided to keep the post of mayor and renounces the seat of MP, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The Associations' president Radu Busila says the examination of the application is delayed owing to a conflict of interests caused by the ties of kindred between Chirtoaca and the Head of Parliament.
“The amendments introduced to the Law on the Status of MP, whereby the term during which the MPs must renounce the seat if they hold other paid posts was extended, show that some persons put themselves above the law and change it as they like,” Busila told a news conference on Tuesday.
Besides Chirtoaca, there are 14 other members of the Alliance for European Integration (AEI) who hold posts of ministers and deputy ministers. Earlier, they had to renounce one of the posts within 30 days of the appointment to the new post. This term would have expired on October 25.
The 30-day-term in Chirtoaca's case started when the Constitutional Court validated his seat of MP on August 14. The Christian-Democratic jurists say that if Chirtoaca hadn't filed the application within 30 days, he would have lost the post of mayor automatically.
“He lodged the application, but continues to vote alongside his colleagues from the Alliance against the inclusion of his application in the agenda of the Parliament's sittings,” said Dinu Turcan, who is a member of the Association. According to him, the behavior of the MPs who hold incompatible posts, namely the hesitation in choosing one of the positions held, shows that the AEI faces “misunderstandings and distrust”.
Another Christian-Democratic jurist, Alexei Capbatut said there is no trust inside the Alliance and that the MPs do not rule out that it could disband. 'They are afraid to remain without both of the posts if the Government is dismissed,” he said.
