Chisinau's rain-displaced families put on wait-list

The commission administrating Chisinau's municipal Reserve Fund unanimously decided on Friday to postpone the allocation of money to the families whose houses were damaged by heavy rains on July 31, Info-Prim Neo reports. During a prior inspection, the commission went to a house which had been assessed as the worst affected and required 423,000 lei to repair. The members of the commission were surprised to meet not one, but two claimant families, who alleged they had been living in that house before the disaster, although it seemed totally not fit for habitation and long abandoned. The head of another family seemed angered by the fact that the reconstruction would take longer than he initially thought: “Where do you think I'll be living with my family during the reconstruction?”. In reply, Deputy Mayor Vlad Cotet said the City Hall was just lending a helping hand and wasn't obliged to fully reconstruct the affected houses. The commission arrived at the conclusion that the case of each family was specific, and that was the reason to postpone the allocation of the money. The commission is to visit each of the 14 houses on the list to decide the exact amount of the compensations. The commission will meet again on September 26 to decide what to do next. Currently, the municipal Reserve Fund has 7.5 million lei, 2.3 million lei of which are meant for the flood-affected families.
