Chisinau’s architectural plan projected a ring of trees to be planted around the city, in order to reduce pollution. The “green ring” started fading, once the capital started to extend, being “swallowed” by the city.
Head of the Green Areas department Eliferii Haruta told Info-Prim Neo that another ring must be planted, because the number of cars is increasing and, soon enough, the capital’s forests will not be able to face the pollution levels.
According to Eliferii Haruta, the foundation of the urban roads was not intended for such a car pool and, first and foremost, the trees suffer, because their roots are affected by the weight of the automobiles.
The “Green Areas” director mentioned that the refurbishment of the old forest ring is impossible, because the land around the capital has been privatized.
The green spaces of Chisinau span over an area of 3,000 hectares.
