From next year, Chisinau will celebrate Europe Day on May 9, as the other states of the world. An order to this effect was made by Mayor General of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca on December 9. The cultural activities organized on the occasion of Europe Day will take place in the Great National Assembly Square, IPN reports.
Dorin Chirtoaca told a news conference that the May 9 festivities dedicated to the victory over fascism will be staged at the Memorial Complex “Eternity”. The City Hall made approaches to Parliament to modify the legation so that the day of May 9 is officially celebrated as Europe Day, but no answer has come yet.
Until now, Europe Day has been marked in Chisinau on other days than May 9 so as not to overlap the activities dedicated to the victory over fascism and to avoid possible conflicts.
