The main artery of Chisinau, Stefan cel Mare si Sfant Blvd, was ‘dressed’ in a tricolor. The 1-km long flag that was three lanes wide was spread by 400 volunteers from the Academy of Sciences of Moldova towards Buiucani district. The event was held to celebrate the National Day of Romania, IPN reports.

Vlad Biletski, head of the association “Honor, Dignity and Homeland” (ODIP), which staged the event, said the real heroes are those who protected Moldova’s integrity, tricolor and language with guns in their hands. “December 1 is a day of glory. It is a victorious day for us. December 1 is not May 9, when we celebrate the killing of millions of people. December 1 is our victory, of the Romanians, of our culture and identity. We never occupied anyone and never subdued anyone. We demand the same from the others. Let us live our life as we want,” he stated.

He added that owing to the martyrs who died for the tricolor, today December 1 can be marked freely and the 1-km long tricolor was stretched in Chisinau in memory of the martyrs as well.

The protesters who came together near the Monument to Ruler Stephan the Great and Holy received free tricolor ribbons and sang patriotic songs. One of the protesters, aged 84, said for him December 1 is a holiday of the Romanians everywhere. “It is a big holiday expected by all those who believe in God and who hope the country will be united,” said the man.

“I’m for the tricolor with the heart and soul and always for the country and the Union,” stated a woman.

“It is the holiest day for the Romanian people. After the Great Union of 1918, Bessarabia’s happiness lasted for only 22 years as the elder brothers were occupied by an ultimatum and we continue to suffer. God will help us reach our goal,” said another protester.
