Suggested by foreign experts, “Apa-Canal Chisinau” (ACC) tests a new technology to process the mud at the water-cleaning facility. The mud is to be placed for dehydration in geotubes – recipients resilient when pumping liquids inside of them. The ACC experts say the unpleasant smell in Chisinau will be removed, Info-Prim Neo reports. On Wednesday, the Chisinau mayor, Dorin Chirtaoca, visited the cleaning facility and saw the new technology. The mud in the recipients with the necessary ratio of chemicals proved to dry quicker, as the scent practically disappeared. Now the mud of the cleaning plant is dried in open air between 8 and 17 months, as the smell is felt by the whole city, especially in summers. The geotubes may occupy only 40% of the areas used by the mud drying platforms. ACC is also testing special chemicals to treat the mud. In the near future, they plan buy 2 geotubes of 180 m in length and a diameter of 15 m, which can hold 15,000 m³ of mud. After the dehydration, only some 3,000 m³ of dry mud will remain. Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca says in case the solution is accepted, they will start to install the geotubes in fall. “We need to have the final results in September,” he said. The water-treating plant from Chisinau was put in commission from 1964 through 1977, and is practically worn out now, as no revamp works have been operated on it later.
