The third River Festival “Love your river!” will take place in Chisinau on October 8. The event is aimed at propagating the protection of water resources existing in Moldova. In a news conference at IPN, head of the National Environmental Center Ina Coseru said that within the festival they will also speak about the danger of water pollution and water resources diminution.
Ina Coseru said that besides the artistic program that includes a number of genres of music and national and foreign singers, RiverFest also has an education and information program. “We plan to stage a series of workshops on the quality and quantity of the water in the Republic of Moldova,” she stated. According to the Center’s head, they will speak both about river water and groundwater, about the waste found in this water and about the behavior the people should adopt to protect water.
Iulian Gamurari, head of the Recycling Guard, which is one of the partners of the festival, said they will give an education class to discuss the recycling of objects and products for these to not to affect water. “We will make effort to show how irresponsible the population is. I tell you from my own experience that nobody collects the oil used in cooking to later take it for recycling. This is poured into the sink and then reaches the water that we drink and with which we water the fruit and vegetables,” she stated.
Corneliu Marza, the representative of a company that builds and imports wastewater treatment stations, said one of the workshops will center on the technologies used to treat wastewater. “There will be created a very large platform for discussions so as to obtain more knowledge and possibilities of becoming involved in solving water-related problems,” he noted.
Project expert of the National Environmental Center Iuliana Cantaragiu said this event is very closely related to folklore. The artistic program includes national customs and traditions about nature, in general, and rivers, in particular. Four trips to the Chisinau wastewater treatment station will be organized during the festival.
Alla Dontu, who heads the production class “Youbesc”, stated that RiverFest is a unique event because it will involve an international band that tops European charts. The band “Kadebostany” will perform in the open air in Chisinau for the first time. The artists of this band are promoters of a healthy environment and environmental protection.
RiverFest “Love your river!” will take place in the Botanical Garden of Chisinau starting at 12 noon. Children will be allotted an area where they will be able to make toys from polymer clay. Tickets cost 100 lei. Entrance for children younger than 10 is free of charge.
