Chisinau to host “Moldova and Energy Community” conference

An international conference themed “Moldova and the Energy Community” will take place in Chisinau on June 9. This is the first large-scale event of the Moldovan presidency of the Energy Community Treaty (ECT), Info-Prim Neo reports. In a discussion with journalists, Deputy Minister of Economy Ilarion Popa said the priorities of the Moldovan presidency include the successful implementation of the communitarian acquis in the energy sector by all the member countries or applicants, development of the joint regulatory framework for promoting investments in the energy sector for modernizing the energy infrastructure, improvement of energy efficiency and the use of renewable sources of energy. The conference will bring together about 150 specialists and officials from member states and countries applying to join the Energy Community Treaty, foreign and national experts, representatives of the development partners, business community, scientific institutions and of civil society. Under the program of the Moldovan presidency of the Energy Community Treaty, a meeting of the ECT Ministerial Council, a social forum where there will be signed a memorandum on the protection of the rights of energy users, and a meeting of the group for energy problems of the Eastern Partnership will take place in October.
