For the first time Moldova will host the meeting of the Committee on Social Affairs, Health and Sustainable Development of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE). The meeting will take place on May 19 and will be chaired by the committee’s head Valeriu Ghiletski, who is the first Moldovan MP elected as the chairman of a PACE committee, IPN reports.
According to the Parliament’s press service, the meeting will discuss draft resolutions on the European social model, the necessity of the minimum guaranteed income and the management of emergencies in international public health. Hearings centering on the improvement of children’s access to social and health services oriented to their needs will take place within the committee.
The meeting will be preceded by the regional parliamentary seminar “Promotion of social rights in the Eastern Partnership region: focalization on the European Social Charter” on May 18. It will focus on the situation of social rights in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine and is aimed at identifying ways of improving the implementation of the European Social Charter in the EaP member states.
On May 20 Moldova’s Parliament will also host the 23rd meeting of the PACE Network of Contact Parliamentarians to stop sexual violence against children. European experts, representatives of the public authorities of Moldova and NGOs will exchange good practices with the aim of stimulating a series of legal and political measures to stop the sexual violence against children.
