On the margins of the European Armwrestling and Para-Armwrestling Championships, to take place June 11-17 at Moldexpo in Chisinau, there will also be a fair of Moldovan food and non-food products. The organizers invite the public to attend the sports event as well as the fair.
Alexandru Grumeza, president of the National Armwrestling Sports Federation, said he is confident the fair will be an additional attraction for both tourists and the supporters of the contestants.
“The European Championships will be a complex event involving much more than the sports part”, Alexandru Grumeza told a press conference on Wednesday.
Grumeza welcomed the fact that the Chisinau City Hall has been receptive and found it possible to support the event, so that the 1,000 athletes and their delegations, the spectators, the press and visitors from abroad can appreciate Chisinau as a European capital.
Chisinau mayor Ion Ceban saluted the involvement of all his colleagues from the City Hall in organizing the championships. “Let me wish the best of luck to those participating. It is an extraordinarily beautiful event. We made maximum efforts for this event. We are both co-funders and co-organizers in this effort to bring so many interesting, sporty, dynamic people to Chisinau”, said the mayor.
For his part, Andrei Pavaloi, deputy head of Education, Youth and Sports, said that a championship of such magnitude is taking place for the first time in the capital of the Republic of Moldova, and the participation of the City Hall as a co-organizer was essential. The federation tried to find sponsorships from elsewhere as well, but with little success, considering that the amount for holding the event exceeds 2 million lei. The City Hall supports not only this championship, but many other sports events, added Pavaloi.
